Johnny Manziel knows what it takes to win a Heisman Trophy. He was the first to win the prestigious college award as a freshman when he played as a quarterback for Texas A&M in 2012.

Since Manziel has now moved on to become an analyst, he has endorsed Vanderbilt quarterback Diego Pavia as one of his 2025 Heisman finalists.

“I think what he (Pavia) has done throughout the season, the wins they’ve had, the way that he’s played ... if there’s five (Heisman Trophy) finalists, Diego Pavia absolutely deserves to be in New York,” Manziel said on the "Nightcap" podcast on Sunday. “If you’re looking at one of the most outstanding players in football, based on what he’s done this year, he gets one of those spots.”

Pavia is enjoying an excellent season for No. 13 Vanderbilt (8-2). He has completed 70% of his passes for 2,440 yards and 21 touchdowns while also rushing for 613 yards and seven TDs.

If Pavia leads the Commodores to two more wins in the regular season, there is a chance that the team could qualify for the College Football Playoff.

Last week, Johnny Manziel heaped praise on Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin for his excellent run so far. However, Manziel still believes the QB has to do a bit more to win the Heisman Trophy.

“He’s playing really, really well going into the final month of the season,” Manziel saod on the “Nightcap” show.“Obviously, things change in the Heisman race, but when you look at Ohio State’s picture, the way that they’re playing, the way that he’s playing, you’d think all of us here agree he’s a shoe-in for New York. He’s going to end up as a finalist, for sure.”

The top-ranked Buckeyes (9-0, 6-0 Big Ten) will face UCLA in Week 12 on Saturday.
