The two clubs, whose home venues are under 32 miles apart, are also the two most successful football teams that England has ever produced.

Indeed, so closely matched are they in the all-time standings that fans celebrate titles not just for the joy of their own team winning, but because it represents a slap in the face for their fierce rivals.

As of their Premier League title win in April 2025, Liverpool have the edge over Man United, with 70 total trophies compared with the Red Devils' 68.

Arne Slot's team lost the Carabao Cup final in February but were the dominant force in the top flight in 2024/25, enabling them to increase the gap to their fierce rivals in terms of trophies. However, United are still in the hunt for Europa League glory, so they could move back to within one before the season is out.

These two are well clear of the rest in terms of England's most successful clubs. Arsenal are third on 49 trophies, with Manchester City a further 13 behind despite their dominant era under Pep Guardiola.

Man United may not have won the Premier League since 2012/13, but they are level with Liverpool as the two teams with the most titles in the history of England's top division in men's football.

Each have been crowned champions 20 times, although only two of Liverpool's title wins have come in the Premier League era compared with 13 for United.

Liverpool's 11 European trophies puts them comfortably ahead of United's total of six.

The Reds have won the UEFA Champions League (previously the European Cup) six times, which is more than any other English side. They have also won the Europa League (formerly the UEFA Cup) on three occasions, as well as lifting four UEFA Super Cups and one FIFA Club World Cup.

That figure of 14 is nearly double United's eight, which comprises three European Cup/Champions League wins, and one victory each in the Europa League, European Cup Winners' Cup, UEFA Super Cup, FIFA Club World Cup, and Intercontinental Cup.
