It’s been a long offseason, but the wait is finally over — MLB Opening Day is here, and it’s kicking off with the Pirates and Mets facing off in Queens.

The Mets had a fairly active offseason after parting ways with Pete Alonso, Brandon Nimmo and Edwin Diaz. Some notable pickups include pitcher Freddy Peralta (who starts today), infielders Bo Bichette and Jorge Polanco, and former Yankee Luke Weaver.

The Pirates also added to their roster during the offseason by trading for All-Star second baseman Brandon Lowe and signing 1B/OF Ryan O’Hearn.

How to watch Pirates vs. Mets for free

If you don’t have cable, you’ll need a live TV streaming service to stream MLB Opening Day for free. Today’s Mets game is a national game airing on NBC, meaning it will not be on SNY.

DIRECTV is our favorite service for watching TV live for free — it has a five-day free trial and there are a ton of options for plans that include NBC, including genre packs that offer more flexibility at lower price points. NBC is part of the MyNews genre pack ($39.99/month and the MySports ($44.99/month for a limited time) genre pack.

You can also catch every minute of the Olympics with a subscription to Peacock, which starts at $10.99/month.

Pirates vs. Mets starting pitchers

New Mets ace Freddy Peralta will be on the mound for the home team. The Mets acquired Peralta in a trade with Milwaukee, and he’s set to make his third straight Opening Day start.

Reigning NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes will start his second straight Opening Day for the Pirates.
