"Gotta blow it up. This is disgusting": NBA Fans Brutally Honest as Mavericks Sink to New Low After Deflating Loss

The Dallas Mavericks, after so much preseason hype, suffered their fourth straight loss on Friday to drop their record to 2-7. Dallas led for roughly three minutes before going down to the Memphis Grizzlies 118-104. The Mavs only made the score more respectable after the visiting team coasted to the finish line in the fourth quarter.

NBA analyst Kevin O’Connor joined fans in blasting the Mavs:

“Mavs gotta blow it up. This is disgusting.”

One fan said:

@KevinOConnor Careful bro, blowing it up has several connotations with that franchise.

Another fan added:

@KevinOConnor Nico Harrison be like “say no more, I got Cooper on a flight to Philly for Kyle Lowry”

One more fan continued:

@KevinOConnor @iamrocknation THEY TRADED THE BEST PLAYER SINCE LEBRON FOR 32 YEAR OLD INJURY PRONE BIG AND 1 PICK LOLOLOLOLOL

Another fan commented:

@KevinOConnor Give Nico time. Completely gutting and destroying a franchise is a process. He's doing what typically takes years in a few months.

Dallas headed into the season uncertain about the status of Kyrie Irving, who is recovering from a torn ACL. Irving said in his Twitch stream in August that “there is no timetable” for his return. Without Irving, the Mavs are pinning their hopes on Anthony Davis and Cooper Flagg, the No. 1 pick of the 2025 NBA draft.

However, Davis suffered a calf injury in a 107-105 loss to the Indiana Pacers in late October. They are winless without him this season. With Irving sidelined, Mavericks coach Jason Kidd has asked Flagg to run the offense, a move that has turned in mixed results.

The struggles of Klay Thompson have added to the issues hounding the team, forcing Kidd to insert D’Angelo Russell. Against the Grizzlies, Thompson went scoreless behind 0-for-6 shooting and finished the night with three assists, one steal and one rebound.

Russell helps run the offense, but he has been a liability on defense. DLo contributed nine points, five assists and three rebounds but committed three turnovers in the loss to the Grizzlies.

If the lineup continues to underperform, calls to break the team up will only grow louder.

Dallas Mavericks are alone at bottom of Western Conference standings

Two weeks into the 2025-26 NBA season, things could not be worse for the Dallas Mavericks. Following their fourth consecutive loss, they now dwell at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 2-7 record. The injury-plagued and rebuilding Utah Jazz are 3-6, a game ahead of them in the win-loss slate.

Anthony Davis’ potential return next week could help the Mavs rise the conference ladder. AD could return soon after Jason Kidd confirmed that the star big man has been playing well in practice.

The Mavericks will play the Washington Wizards in less than 24 hours, adding to their adversity. They will go home for a brutal stretch where they face the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, LA Clippers and Portland Trail Blazers.

If AD is limited or the Mavericks continue to struggle, they could find themselves stuck in the cellar of the Western Conference rankings.
