The Vegas Golden Knights are signing a player with some serious stature.

Their organization's newest defenseman is a 6-foot-7 21-year old.

The signing was announced this weekend: His name is Bronson Ride.

Ride plays in the Ontario Hockey League for the North Bay Batallion.

He has played 57 games this season and has put up a career-best 21 points (four goals, 17 assists) while working mostly as a defense-first player.

The left-shot Ride also has played in the OHL with the Niagara IceDogs and the Windsor Spitfires.

Ride participated in the Golden Knights' development and training camps last year, so they had their eyes on him for a while.

North Bay's season in the OHL is still playing, so Ride won't be leaving right away.

Instead, he'll be a candidate to join the AHL Silver Knights at whatever point the Battalion's season ends.

He never got drafted during his eligibility to be chosen in the NHL Draft, which is why Ride is available to be a signing at this point in the season.

It's a logical try for the Golden Knights to take. Ride may not amount to much, but if he does, he'll be a rare player type at his size with some legitimate defensive ability.

For now, Golden Knights leadership will hope to see Ride make a key playoff contribution in the OHL before his next step.
