The New York Giants weren't exactly rocked by the news that defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence requested a trade away from the franchise as contract negotiations stalled.
In fact, they saw it coming, according to head coach John Harbaugh, who stated he saw it coming "a few weeks back."
So, this isn't a slap in the face to the Giants; it could merely be a point in negotiations to move things along.
But Harbaugh offered up an interesting thought on Lawrence and his trade request.
"I think the prospects are gonna be high because the Giants, speaking for the Giants, we want Dexter here," Harbaugh said via NFL.com. "I believe Dexter wants to be here, you know, that's a good formula, but there's business involved."

Harbaugh's message confusing
So, there is a bit to work through here.
Lawrence requested a trade away from the franchise because his contract negotiations were not where he wanted them to be.
But then Harbaugh has stated Lawrence "wants to be here," which has me a little puzzled.
Is Dexter's trade request a simple ploy to put pressure on the Giants to hurry up with a new contract and to get it sorted out as soon as possible? That seems feasible.
But if Dexter truly wants out, for Harbaugh to say this is a little odd.
So, which one is it? Does Lawrence really want out? Or is this a negotiating tactic?
We're about to find out.
