The San Francisco Giants have already played their first game of the 2026 MLB season, and it didn't go well. A 7-0 loss to the New York Yankees was not what the Giants were hoping for.
One of the biggest issues was the start of Logan Webb. He struggled in that first start, and while he should be fine going forward, the Giants could now use another starting pitcher atop the rotation, just in case.
That's why The Athletic's Jim Bowden predicted that, following the 2026 season, the Giants would sign the New York Mets Opening Day starter, Freddy Peralta, to a massive $214 million contract next offseason.
Giants predicted to sign Freddy Peralta to $214M deal next offseason
"Freddy Peralta signs a seven-year, $214 million deal with the Giants in free agency," Bowden predicted.
While the 2026 season needs to be played before this prediction could have a chance at coming true, it is an interesting look into what the Giants could do in the future.
Adding Peralta, who would be 30 years old next offseason, would be a very interesting signing for the Giants.
The righty has two All-Star nods before his 2026 season with the Mets, and he is coming off a 2.70 ERA season in 2025 with the Milwaukee Brewers.

In his eight-year big league career, Peralta has a 3.59 ERA across 211 games and 162 starts. He's been an above-average pitcher for most of his career, with his 154 ERA+ in 2025 being his best season to date.
If he could follow that up with a strong 2026, then this prediction for the Giants, with a massive $214 million contract for Peralta in next year's offseason, would not be an overpay.
Dylan Cease signed with the Toronto Blue Jays for $210 million over seven years this past offseason, so a $4 million bump for Peralta would be worth it for the Giants.
The Giants need starting pitching help, and while they could get a rental this year, adding someone long-term like Peralta on a $214 million deal over seven years would be a great addition to the rotation for the Giants in 2027 and beyond.
