The San Francisco Giants finally filled out their outfield when they signed Harrison Bader to play center field, but getting some depth could be in their best interest.
Fansided’s Christopher Kline predicts the Giants will go out and get All-Star outfielder Starling Marte, who could provide some decent hitting off the bench, and work in time in the outfield and DH. He primarily was a DH last season, so he could also be a backup plan to replace Bryce Eldridge if he doesn’t pan out.
“Starling Marte has dealt with more than his share of injuries over the past few years. He's 37 now, which means there is only so much gas left in the tank, despite a professed desire to play into his 40s. Despite a limited market, however, Marte still has some pop in his bat. He's also a valuable leadership figure, which could attract rebuilding teams and contenders alike. The Giants' only reliable bench outfielder right now is Drew Gilbert, who posted a .598 OPS last season. He also has three Minor League options left. Marte was more of a DH for the Mets in 2025, but San Francisco can probably get away with the occasional spot start in right or left field. He can also soak up spare DH reps with Rafael Devers and Luis Arráez committed to first base and second base, respectively,” Kline wrote.
Last season, Marte slashed .270/.335/.410/.745 with 14 doubles, nine home runs and 34 RBI in 98 games. As stated earlier, he would give the starting outfielders the ability to have a day off, and could take over at DH if the Eldrige experiment doesn’t work out.

Marte’s projected to receive a one-year, $7.8 million deal, which is incredibly affordable for a player of his caliber. Plus, even if he doesn’t live up to expectations performance-wise, the veteran presence and intangibles he brings more than make up for it.
Hopefully, the Giants realize this and get to work on getting Marte on their team.
