It doesn't get any worse than your star quarterback being out for an extended period of time in the NFL. Actually, the only thing worse is if a season-ending injury happens early in the season for that notable quarterback.
While it's not official, that's possibly what the New York Giants are dealing with when it comes to Jaxson Dart. The quarterback left the team's game on Monday against the Los Angeles Rams in pain, and according to multiple reports, his injury is "worse than initially thought." He could even be out for the entire rest of the season.
That's brutal, but it's also the NFL. That's why teams have backup quarterbacks. For the Giants, their QB2 is Jameis Winston. So, what does head coach John Harbaugh think of Winston, and can he handle being the team's starter for weeks to come?
John Harbaugh has 'absolute faith' in Jameis Winston
Harbaugh was asked about the faith that he has in Winston during a recent presser. He didn't mince words. He said that he believes in this backup quarterback.
"Absolute faith in all our players...injuries in the NFL are part of it, at any position," he said, per SNY Sports.
So, there you have it. Winston will have to do better than he did in the team's game against the Rams, though. The Giants fell 28-6 in that matchup. Winston ended the game with 11 completions on 27 pass attempts for 111 yards, zero touchdowns and one interception.
Harbaugh was also asked how hard it can be to motivate a team after your starting signal-caller goes down.
"Historically, it's not a problem at all, because the guys want to go win and go play," he answered.
