Giants firing Brian Daboll makes wild Bears coincidental history

The Chicago Bears beat the New York Giants in a wild comeback win in Week 10 of the NFL season, with a final score of 24-20. Down 20-10 in the fourth quarter, the Bears rattled off 14 unanswered points with under five minutes to go.

This wasn't the first major blown lead by the Giants in 2025, and owner John Mara had seen enough, firing Giants head coach Brian Daboll after his loss to the Bears.

The decision to fire Daboll made for some wild coincidental history with the Bears. The last three Giants head coaches have all been fired, with all three losing to the Bears in Chicago in that same season.

How Bears-Giants games have led to wild coaching coincidences

As Mike_YY on Twitter/X pointed out, this isn't the first time the Giants have lost to the Bears, and later went on to fire their head coach.

In 2019, the Giants fired Pat Shumur just a few weeks after losing to the Bears, 19-14. Then, in 2021, Joe Judge was fired just a game after the Bears won 29-3. Now in 2025, the Bears won, and just a day later, Daboll was fired.

Part of what makes this coincidental history so fascinating is that all three of these games came in Chicago. The Bears have played in New York against the Giants once since 2019, and it was Daboll's first year in 2022, and it was a Bears loss.

There was a 2020 game in which the Giants lost in Chicago to the Bears that didn't amount to any firings, but for the last three Giants head coaches all to get fired after losing to the Bears in Chicago is a strange coincidence.

While they're in the same conference, they aren't in the same division. Of the last five Giants-Bears matchups, four have occurred in Chicago, and three have come in seasons when the Giants have later fired their head coach.

In 2019, the Giants fired Shumur at the end of the year after an early-season loss ot the Bears. In 2021, Judge was fired at the end of the year after a late-season loss to the Bears. But in 2025, Daboll was fired mid-season after a crushing loss to Chicago.

The next Giants head coach will need to be wary of facing the Bears in Chicago, as three of he last four times that matchup has happened, the Bears have gone on to win, and the head coach was later fired.
