Giants finally move on from 3rd-base coach after multiple bad sends

1 hour ago 3

The San Francisco Giants are having a rough 2026 season in Tony Vitello's first season as manager. They're 22-34, 14.0 games out of first place in the NL West, and well outside of the postseason hunt.

Any team with such a record will have plenty of things going wrong, and while the Giants' poor offensive numbers from key players like Willy Adames, Rafael Devers, and Matt Chapman are to blame for the poor record, so too is their third base coach.

After multiple terrible sends in recent days, Alex Pavlovic of NBS Sports Bay Area reported that the Giants finally decided to move on from third-base coach Hector Borg, which should be welcome news for Giants fans tired of seeing bad sends this season.

Giants reassign 3rd base coach amid multiple bad sends

"The Giants have reassigned Hector Borg," Pavlovic reports. "Ron Wotus will be the interim third base coach."

Pavlovic followed up with a report that Borg is returning to player development, and that he's "very well-liked" within the organization. But, as seen this season, he might not be cut out for a third-base role.

While the Giants' losing ways this season aren't solely due to Borg, as seen in the recent series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, his sends from third base have cost the Giants a chance to score runs.

For the struggling Giants, any change is a welcome one, as they need to find a way to right this sinking ship before things get too far out of hand.

This third base coaching change won't instantly fix things, but hopefully it does at least help a little bit. Borg is in a better role, and the Giants can bring in a better third base coach to help out in a key area that's given them fits this season.

Vitello and Buster Posey are having a rough 2026 season, and while they're not pinning the blame on Borg, this decision will help to highlight how they're trying to get better as a team despite the rough start to the season.
