Giants are trying to trade for second first-round pick, per report

The New York Giants are looking to put their plan in motion.

After it was reported earlier Thursday that New York isn't expected to take Colorado quarterback Shedeur Sanders with the No. 3 pick, it's clear they are going with a best-player-available approach early in the first round.

However, the Giants are reportedly seeking a trade back into the first round toward the end of the night, according to Dianna Russini of The Athletic.

"The phone lines are getting busier as the first round nears, per sources," Russini reported. "The Broncos and Texans are attempting to move up the draft order, while the Giants are trying to acquire a second first-round pick at the back end of the round."

Over the last week or so, the notion of New York taking a top prospect at No. 3 and then trading back into the first round in order to grab a quarterback has become more popular.

The Giants should have plenty of teams to target in the late teens and into the 20s, especially with so many teams willing to move back in order to add more draft capital.

It remains to be seen which quarterback prospect the Giants would target if they land a deal with a team Thursday night.

Sanders could certainly still be in play if he isn't already off the board while recent reports have suggested that head coach Brian Daboll has taken a liking to Ole Miss starter Jaxson Dart.

If the Giants do add a quarterback at any point in the draft, that rookie will join a quarterback room currently consisting of Russell Wilson, Jamies Winston and Tommy DeVito.

This should make for an interesting night, and there's a chance the Giants wind up with a potential future starting quarterback before Day 1 of the draft is over.
