It feels as though Giannis Antetokounmpo is slowly starting to slip away from the Golden State Warriors despite the 2025-26 season still ongoing.
Whether suggesting that the Warriors may choose to retain their first-round pick as opposed to using it to acquire Antetokounmpo or citing that the Miami Heat are currently leading the Antetokounmpo sweepstakes, several reports have made it challenging to envision the two-time MVP in a Warriors uniform.
The Stein Line’s Jake Fischer’s recent report involving Antetokounmpo and Stephen Curry added insult to injury, as the notable NBA noted that he isn’t a firm believer that the Dubs could acquire the 10-time All-Star in the upcoming weeks.
"I'm not looking at Golden State really as a Giannis team either," Fischer said last Tuesday. “I have been told that Giannis isn't exactly enamored with moving to the Western Conference in general, let alone going and being second fiddle to Stephen Curry.”
If Antetokounmpo is enamored by the idea of getting shipped to an Eastern Conference squad that’ll anoint him as the franchise’s No. 1 scoring option from the get-go, the Warriors aren’t the best possible landing spot.
As long as Curry is suiting up for the Dubs, the organization’s offense will revolve around him, and Golden State doesn’t plan to move from the West to the East anytime soon, making it wise for Antetokounmpo to explore other trade options.
With it appearing inevitable that the Warriors will miss out on the future Hall of Fame forward this summer, it’ll be crucial for the Curry-led organization to possess as many backup trade targets as possible.
