In a sport increasingly defined by high-octane offensive outings, the first two contests in the 2026 NBA Finals have proven to be slugfests.
The Knicks emerged as victors in both, surviving a fourth-quarter surge to hold off the Spurs in Game 2. Historically, 2-0 leads in the NBA Finals have been fairly impregnable, with only five teams teams mounting a comeback to win the series.
The last such comeback came in 2021, when the Bucks downed the Suns with four straight wins. If San Antonio has any hope of bucking the recent trend, it will need its talisman, Victor Wembanyama, to put forth showings similar to that of Milwaukee's standout, Giannis Antetokounmpo.
He'll get all he can handle in the form of Karl-Anthony Towns, the presumptive favorite to hoist the Finals MVP trophy should New York win the title. Towns has arguably been the Knicks' best player during their postseason run. His showcase in Game 2 was a memorable one, a 21-point, 13-rebound display that will live long in onlookers' memories.
