The Milwaukee Bucks made their stance clear on their star forward Giannis Antetokounmpo in early May.

According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, the Bucks are ‘fully open for business’ when it comes to a potential trade centered on the 10-time All-Star. Charania’s report wasn’t surprising, considering Milwaukee is more likely to begin the rebuilding process this summer after failing to build on its 2020-21 championship campaign.

However, Antetokounmpo’s recent comments suggest it isn’t a foregone conclusion that he’ll depart Milwaukee in the next few weeks, which is game-changing news for the Bucks and the rest of the NBA.

“They reached out and said they want to open a restaurant here in Milwaukee because I'm Greek,” Antetokounmpo said on the School of Hard Knocks podcast Monday.

“I was like ‘oh, lovely!’ After the games, I’ll be able to come eat here….. 2013, I got drafted, I came here to Milwaukee, I’ve been here 13 years with the team, and hopefully many more.”

Antetokounmpo, stating that he hopes to continue creating lifelong memories with the Bucks, suggests the two-time MVP is not as disgruntled as the media has portrayed him.

Have times been rough for Antetokounmpo in Milwaukee for the past few seasons? Absolutely, as the organization hasn’t been highly competitive in the Eastern Conference despite the former lottery pick’s superhuman contributions.

That said, Antetokounmpo has spent his entire career with the Bucks. If the 31-year-old still believes Milwaukee is the right place for him to contend for championships, he could urge the franchise to retain him for the foreseeable future.

It’s difficult to envision the Bucks not at least fielding offers for Antetokounmpo this summer, though.
