The Giannis Antetokounmpo trade rumors reached fever pitch early this month. NBA insider Shams Charania’s report on Dec. 4 about the Milwaukee Bucks discussing Antetokounmpo’s “future” with the team fueled more speculation. The two-time MVP kept mum until Thursday, when he addressed those reports.
When asked to comment on his name as the headline in trade talks, Antetokounmpo responded:
“This is the most I’ve ever been talked about in my career. I’m in my house with my kids, and I’m opening the TV, and it’s like, ‘Oh, Giannis is going to the Memphis Grizzlies!’ Or, ‘Giannis is going to the Detroit Pistons!’ Which, hey man, I’m not going to lie, I’m the hottest chick in the game right now.”•

Rumors of Giannis Antetokounmpo’s potential exit from Milwaukee started in the offseason. The Bucks were coming off their third straight first-round playoff exit despite Antetokounmpo putting up dazzling numbers. Charania reported in October that team GM Jon Horst met with Antetokounmpo in Greece to hash out the uncertainties.
Antetokounmpo returned and maintained his MVP-level play, but the Bucks struggled. He suffered a right calf strain a day after Charania reported about the Bucks-Antetokounmpo meeting that increased trade talks.
The Toronto Raptors, Golden State Warriors, New York Knicks, and Miami Heat are among the teams rumored to be interested in the two-time MVP.
Giannis Antetokounmpo denies report he met with Bucks, insists he’s still “locked in”
Ahead of the Milwaukee Bucks’ game against the Toronto Raptors on Thursday, Giannis Antetokounmpo met with the media. When asked about his reported meeting with his team, the versatile forward answered:
"If my agent is talking to the Bucks about it, he is his own person. He can have any conversation he wants about it. At the end of the day, I don't work for my agent; my agent works for me. "I personally have not had the conversation with the Bucks. I'm still locked in. Locked in on my teammates, locked in on my team.”The trade speculations about Giannis Antetokounmpo have persisted even after he denied meeting with the Bucks. He will not likely be able to escape from those talks as the NBA draws closer to the Feb. 5 trade deadline.
Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.9 points, 10.1 rebounds and 6.1 assists per game this season. He is working his way back from a right calf injury that he suffered against the Denver Nuggets on Dec. 3.
