Gervonta Davis’s buildup to the Jake Paul boxing clash has been hit by another legal storm. Just two weeks before their scheduled bout in Miami, the WBA lightweight champion is now facing a civil lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend, Courtney Rossel, in Miami-Dade County.

The complaint, according to a report by ESPN MMA, accuses Davis of battery, aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and intentional infliction of emotional distress.

The allegations stem from an incident that reportedly took place earlier this week at Tootsies, a Miami gentlemen’s club where Rossel worked. She claims Davis attacked her in a back room without cameras and dragged her through the club before assaulting her in the parking garage.

Rossel also detailed a pattern of abuse over their five-month relationship. She cited multiple occasions where Davis allegedly choked, assaulted, or threatened to kill her. The lawsuit adds that Rossel is currently seeking therapy for post-traumatic stress and anxiety while living with others for safety reasons.

The timing of the case is damaging for Davis, who was already under scrutiny following the dismissal of another domestic violence case two months ago involving a different ex-girlfriend. His history includes a 2023 hit-and-run conviction that resulted in house arrest and probation.

Representatives for Davis and Jake Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions have not commented on whether the lawsuit could impact the November 14 exhibition bout.

Gervonta Davis’ camp has downplayed the latest domestic violence lawsuit filed by his former girlfriend Courtney Rossel just two weeks before his fight with Jake Paul. The civil suit accuses the WBA lightweight champion of battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, and emotional distress over an alleged assault at a Miami club.

Davis’s trainer, Calvin Ford, said the boxer is “doing fine” as they look into the case. Sharing his thoughts on the developments with USA Today, he said:

"He’s doing great. Everything’s good. That’s why we’re trying to find out what’s going on."
