George Pickens, an ultra-talented phenom who has all the talent in the world, could never seem to be at peace with his role, and the state of the Steelers during his tenure. In fact, he has already thrown shade toward the Steelers in an interview with the Dallas media that was posted to the Cowboys' team page.
"It’s super refreshing with a different culture," Pickens said. Since being traded on May 7, it is needless to say that Pickens has a great feeling about the state of his current team in just 16 days. However, devil's advocates would agree that Pickens is in a much healthier situation with a role model in Ceedee Lamb, a bold personality in Jerry Jones, and a stable quarterback room with a strong presence in Dak Prescott.
Pickens said in an interview with the team's web site after being drafted, "I was really just thinking, I’m glad to be a Steeler…It was all happening so fast, so like, I really couldn't think too much. It was just a great feeling to be honest." Pickens was overcome with joy, showed the media his current maturity, and showed every sign of a franchise wide receiver, and more importantly a high-character individual.
Then, the next three years happened. Over the course of this time, not thinking too much would seem to be the common theme, as he pouted, fought the opposition, fought his teammates, gave minimal effort, and ultimately became a bust for the Steelers. While this seems to be harsh, they are simply facts being stated, as it cost the Steelers many penalties in game, and many headaches off the field. Ultimately, this is what led to the Steelers trading such a talented athlete.
It is also important to note that he will more than likely be seeing less targets, due to the presence of Lamb, and a growing running back in Javonte Williams. As for the Steelers, comments like Pickens’ should be on the bulletin board, and used every single day as motivation for moving closer to bringing Lombardi back to the Steel City.
