A frustrated employee got her friend fired — and as ruthless as it sounds, it was for a good reason.

Anyone who has worked in retail understands how annoying it can be to have to find coverage for a shift when you want a day off. Unfortunately, one Gen Zer learned the hard way that retail workers can be cuthroat, even if they’re your “friend” when it comes to getting time off.

The 22-year-old took to the r/AITA forum on Reddit to share her grievances and what happened.

“I had planned for weeks with my boyfriend to go home during the weekend so we could visit my family,” she wrote.

“2 weeks ago on Friday my friend called me and told me that the guy she was speaking to had invited her last minute to a desert party and she wouldn’t be able to make her shift, so she asked me to cover it for her. I had that Friday off and my bf and I were planning on leaving early since the drive is like around 4-5 hours.”

Although the original poster told her friend she had other obligations and couldn’t help her last minute, the friend had the audacity to disregard the conversation and instead tell their manager that “she had a family emergency” and that the OP would cover for her.

“So when my manager called me and asked me why I wasn’t at work since my friend said I would be working her shift, I told her the truth and my friend ended up getting fired.”

Plenty of Reddit users agreed that this shady, two-timing friend got herself fired.

“NTA. Your ‘friend’ is not a friend. She lied and used you. If anything, she threw you — and your workplace — under the bus. You had every right to say no -—you had plans — and you SHOULD tell your boss the truth. She might have some nice qualities, but I were you, I would not consider her a friend anymore.”

“She jumped in front of the bus herself. You told her no. She chose to ignore it. That was her, lying down, closing her eyes and hoping the bus was miss her. She guessed wrong. What did she expect you to do? Lie down with her? NTA. Maybe the desert guy can get her a job.”

While this employee had what was coming to her — one boss received a lot of criticism online for firing two employees for being cheaters.

“One of things I have gotten so much criticism about online was when I publicly shared a TikTok about firing somebody because I found out she was cheating on her significant other and the other person also had a significant other,” Natalie Dawson, the co-founder and president of Cardone Ventures, recently said on an episode of the “Diary of a CEO” podcast.

“As soon as I found out about it, I terminated both of them immediately.”
