Gary Player 'excited' as 24-yo South African golfer registers maiden DP World Tour win

Gary Player opened up about Jayden Schaper after he won his maiden DP World Tour event. The 24-year-old South African golfer competed at the Alfred Dunhill Championship, which was held from Dec. 11 to 14. He settled in a tie for the lead after three rounds and then finally registered a win after making an eagle in a playoff.

Following the win, Player shared a picture of the 24-year-old golfer on his X (formerly Twitter) account. In the caption, the legendary golfer sent his best wishes to him and also talked about his game at the Nedbank Golf Challenge.

"Many congratulations Jayden Schaper on your playoff victory at the Alfred Dunhill Champion for your first DP World Tour title (not to mention a superb runner-up at the Nedbank Golf Challenge last week)! A remarkable, exciting finish with an eagle on the first playoff hole to seal the win. I am excited to see where your career will take you and I wish you all the best. GP" Player wrote.

Gary Player is among the most successful South African golfers, and after his fellow countryman won a DP World Tour event, he cheered for him.

Schaper started brilliantly with an opening round of 67 at the Alfred Dunhill Championship. He then played the next round of 64 and finally played the third round of 67. Previously, at the Nedbank Golf Challenge, he was close to a win but settled in a tie for second place.

Gary Player shares heartfelt message as grandson joins Palm Beach Atlantic University

Gary Player shared a heartfelt message for his grandson on his X account last week. He shared a few pictures of himself playing golf with his grandchildren and, in the caption, sent his best wishes to his grandson for joining Palm Beach Atlantic University. He wrote:

"It is a great joy that I am able to play with my grandchildren. It is an even greater joy to watch them develop a passion for the great game. Congratulations to my grandson on committing to play his university golf at Palm Beach Atlantic University! His hard work is paying off but the job is not finished. GP"

Gary Player is pretty active on social media, and he has around 398.2K followers on his X account. He has been pretty successful on both on the PGA Tour and the Sunshine Tour in his career. He has won 24 PGA Tour events and 20 tournaments on the Sunshine Tour.

Gary Player has also won nine major titles, including three Masters, two PGA Championships, three Open Championships, and one U.S. Open. He was the PGA Tour money list winner in 1961. Following in his footsteps, his grandson is also playing golf.
