Gary Neville has applauded Chelsea star Cole Palmer for his performance against Liverpool during the Blues’ 3-1 victory over the Reds.

Chelsea secured a crucial win over Liverpool at Stamford Bridge on Sunday to keep their hopes of playing in next season’s UEFA Champions League alive.

More importantly for Chelsea, Cole Palmer seemed like he had returned close to his best as he was heavily involved in the game and scored the third goal for Chelsea.

After the game, Neville was quick to heap praise on the Chelsea attacker for his performance. Speaking on Sky Sports, Neville said: “Some players are just a joy when you watch them. Palmer is one of them.”

While commentating on the game, the former Manchester United defender also pointed out how Palmer used his change of pace to good effect against Liverpool.

“Palmer’s change of pace has been a real feature today. He has been the best player on the pitch by an absolute street.”

Palmer regains his form ahead of the crucial end-of-season run-in for Chelsea

The 22-year-old attacking midfielder went into the game on a four-month goal drought and was in desperate need of a goal to boost his confidence.

However, he was heavily involved in most things that Chelsea created right from the word go and played a part in the opening goal as well.

Palmer was eventually rewarded for his efforts as Chelsea was awarded a penalty late in the game, and he stepped up to convert it and his goal drought.

More importantly, now that the goal drought has ended for the youngster, his manager Enzo Maresca would be hoping that the floodgates open for him in terms of goals.

Chelsea have another massive game coming up in the Premier League against Newcastle United this weekend, the result of which will go a long way in determining which one of the two teams secures UEFA Champions League football next season.
