The much-awaited IPL 2026 auction was held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. A total of 77 players were sold at the mini-auction, with 29 of them being overseas cricketers. The 10 IPL franchises combined to spend ₹215.45 crore at the auction.

Rather predictably, Australian all-rounder Cameron Green ended up being the most expensive buy of the IPL 2026 auction. He was purchased by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who had the biggest purse of ₹64.30 crore, for ₹25.20 crore. Green is now the new record holder for the costliest overseas player in IPL history. However, he will be paid only ₹18 crore owing to IPL's maximum fee rule.

Apart from Green, KKR also picked up Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana for ₹18 crore. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) pulled off a surprise by purchasing uncapped Indian players Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer for ₹14.2 crore each. Further, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) acquired the services of England's batting all-rounder Liam Livingstone for ₹13 crore.
