The much-awaited IPL 2026 auction was held in Abu Dhabi on Tuesday, December 16. While more than 360 players had registered for the auction, 77 players were sold at the mini-auction, with 29 of them being overseas cricketers. A total of ₹215.45 crore was spend at the auction by the IPL franchises.
Australian all-rounder Cameron Green proved the pundits right by becoming the most expensive purchase at the auction. He was sold to Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for ₹25.20 crore. Green thus became the costliest overseas player in IPL history, even though he will be paid ₹18 crore as per the maximum fee rule.
Kolkata, who entered the auction with the biggest purse of ₹64.30 crore, also bought Sri Lankan pacer Matheesha Pathirana for ₹18 crore. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) did the unexpected by purchasing uncapped Indians Kartik Sharma and Prashant Veer for ₹14.2 crore each. Also, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) spent ₹13 crore to pick England batting all-rounder Liam Livingstone.
