Former New York Yankees ace CC Sabathia was on the broadcast during Opening Day against the San Francisco Giants, watching his former team come away with an easy win. Sabathia, a fan favorite in New York, I said all the right things when speaking about the team.
Speaking about the Yankees’ outlook, Sabathia said that he thinks the Yankees are a legitimate World Series team, and a lot of it is due to what they do on the mound.
“It feels like a team that can [win a World Series] with all the pitching that they have,” Sabathia said.
Even with key arms like Gerrit Cole and Carlos Rodon working their way back, the Yankees have already shown they can get out at the highest level. Max Fried and Cam Schlittler were both incredible in the first two starts of the season.
“It’s just about that lineup staying healthy. If Max Fried, Will Warren, and Cam Schlittler can hold it down until Carlos Rodón and Gerrit Cole get back.”
As Sabathia put it, there's also a side of the story that suggests the Yankees don't have to be as great as everybody's making it seem. As long as they can stay somewhat in contention until they get healthy, things should be more than fine.
I really like this Yankees rotation, and I think they'll be more than fine even with guys out.
