A former United States Champion finally freed himself from WWE. The global sports entertainment juggernaut tried to wrongfully keep Andrade off the squared circle for an entire year by sending him a cease and desist letter, claiming that he had breached the company's non-compete clause. Due to the legal action, he was taken off AEW TV after just one appearance.
Since October, El Idolo tried to fight this situation. A few weeks ago, it was reported that the legal notice prohibits him from wrestling anywhere in the world. However, he appeared on House of Glory's Winter Warfare on December 19, 2025. Also, he announced his NJPW return. Fans were curious as to how he had started taking independent bookings despite the restrictions.
According to Fightful.com, Andrade became a free agent around December 12, 2025, after AEW star RUSH introduced him to a lawyer. He was able to get El Idolo out of the contract situation. The agent had worked with the Stamford-based promotion for several years.

Andrade explains why he chose to sign with WWE over AEW in 2024
After spending a couple of years in AEW, the former United States Champion decided to leave the company and return to the global sports entertainment juggernaut.
While speaking on Enmascarados TUDN, Andrade revealed that he and his ex-wife, Charlotte Flair, had decided to return to the Stamford-based promotion despite AEW offering him more money than before.
“AEW offered me almost double to stay… but I chose WWE because of love. She supported me. We talked as a couple — why not go back to WWE and do something together? Maybe I could help her career, and she could help mine. We’d never done anything together on TV. So we decided: let’s try. It wasn’t just me using her. It was our decision. She was happy," he said.It remains to be seen when Andrade will return to AEW.
