Former star Delanie Walker saw Shedeur Sanders’ NFL draft fall coming — and cashed in on it

Practically no one expected Shedeur Sanders to fall all the way to the fifth round of the 2025 NFL Draft — except for former tight end Delanie Walker.

“Shedeur is going to slip to the fifth round, mark my words,” Walker said in early January on the “Bussin’ With The Boys” podcast.

This three-time Pro Bowler’s prediction was blasphemous at the time.

DELANIE KNEW 🤯

Sanders was still heavily in contention for the No. 1 overall pick and was even the betting favorite to go first overall when Walker made his prediction.

Sanders was the favorite to go first overall throughout the entirety of the 2024-25 NFL season until Jan. 8, when the eventual No. 1 pick Cam Ward surpassed him.

Despite this, Walker made the claim — and he put his money where his mouth is.

“I come in and he’s just talking nonsense about Shedeur Sanders,” the show’s co-host, fellow former NFL player Will Compton, said. “[We made] a $1,000 bet that he goes in the top two rounds, if he goes beyond that, Delanie wins.”

“What you think of that bet?” Walker asked someone out of the podcast’s camera view, likely co-host Taylor Lewan, who was a longtime Titans teammate of the tight end.

“I think you’re going to lose $1,000,” he replied.

Well, Walker will get his cash three months later after Sanders not only slipped past the first two rounds, but fell all the way to the fifth — just as Walker predicted — when the Browns took him at No. 144.

The entire room doubted the claims, for what was logically believed to be a good reason, but Compton said Walker was so confident that he shook on the bet not once, but twice.

Leading up to the draft, Sanders started tumbling down boards, but the idea he would fall out of the first round still felt preposterous until it became a reality in Green Bay on Thursday night.

The Giants, Saints and Steelers were all teams in need of a quarterback that were linked to Sanders in the first round.

Instead, the Giants traded back into the first round to take Jaxson Dart, the Saints grabbed Tyler Shough in the second and the Steelers chose Will Howard in the sixth as they wait on Aaron Rodgers’ free-agency decision.
