Former Padres, Twins 4.83 ERA starter signs KBO contract in South Korea

A right-handed starting pitcher is taking his talents to South Korea.

According to Ilyo Shunman, the Korea Baseball Organization's Samsung Lions have signed Chris Paddack.

Paddack, 30, signed a $4 million contract with the Miami Marlins during the offseason.

He lasted just seven games with the NL East club before making quick stops with the Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers

For those three clubs, Paddack threw 57 innings with poor results. He posted a 6.79 ERA with a 7.1% walk rate and 15% strikeout rate.

"Arms are always in demand, but it’s possible that Paddack was limited to minor league offers since hitting the open market last week. Instead, he’ll opt for this overseas opportunity," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote.

"That will come with a small financial boost for him. Signing with another MLB club wouldn’t give him any extra cash," he added.

If Paddack thrives in South Korea, he could help himself land a Major or minor league contract back in the United States in 2027.

The KBO is a 10-team league. Currently, the Lions are 51-32-2 and in first place.
