Pete Alonso surpassed former New York Mets captain David Wright, seizing 2nd place in the team’s all-time home run list. It was his 242nd and 243rd career HR during the game against the Colorado Rockies.
The team not only celebrated Alonso crossing the iconic record set by Wright, but also won the game vs. the Rockies by 13-5. Following the game, Wright sent a heartfelt message to Alonso, congratulating him on his new record.
“Just a huge congratulations. You are one of the premier power-hitters in the game. You easily pass me, set strong on your sights, and now go get him. Congratulations, my man.”•
Pete Alonso also surpassed Darryl Strawberry with 23, for the most multi-home run games in NY Mets history. Now he trails the all-time HR king by only nine records in the organization.
Last month, Wright noted that he can’t wait for Alonso to hit the multi-homer record,
“He did it a lot quicker than I did, that’s for sure. Certainly one of the premier power hitters in baseball. It just seems like every time the ball leaves his bat, it has a chance to get out of the ballpark. And it doesn’t even matter what ballpark he’s playing in.”The former Mets captain believes Alonso is the type of player that a team can put in all 160 games, as he rarely misses time. Pete Alonso shared that the news of surpassing the Mets icon is yet to settle in, and it probably won’t be anytime soon.
Currently, he’s focused on the ball games and getting into the postseason. However, he added it was “really cool” to achieve the record in the latest game.

New York Mets utility player Jeff McNeil highly praised Pete Alonso for his dominant outing in the game against the Colorado Rockies. He admitted that he loves seeing Alonso play, and with the current stride, it’ll be hard to take him down.
“Pete has been pretty incredible this year,” McNeil said. “He’s locked in every single at-bat. A couple home runs tonight. It just seems like in big situations, he’s going to do some damage. I feel like if you miss over the plate with him right now, he’s going to drive the ball over the fence. I just love watching him play.”McNeil said he can’t wait for Alonso to reset the Mets' all-time home run record, and he hopes it comes soon. Juan Soto also praised the first baseman, saying, “He’s a great hitter.”
