Following Chelsea’s 3-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday, Micah Richards has advised the Blues to sign a different type of striker to help Nicolas Jackson up front.
Jackson was one of the few players who had an underwhelming game on Sunday and has been criticised for his performance.
However, Richards was sympathetic towards the Senegalese international.
While speaking on The Rest Is Football about Chelsea’s need for a new forward, the ex-England international said: “There’s too much pressure on him to deliver all the time and his numbers over the past couple of seasons have actually been all right, but I think they need another style striker.”
Jackson has blown hot and cold in front of goal for Chelsea this season, and this has given rise to serious questions about his ability to lead the line for Enzo Maresca’s team.
In 32 appearances across all competitions this season, Jackson has registered only 12 goals and 5 assists, the vast majority of which have come in the Premier League.

Why Micah Richards is right in his assessment of Nicolas Jackson
The kind of form that Jackson has showcased in front of goal for Chelsea puts an undue amount of pressure on those around him, especially the likes of Cole Palmer. The Englishman himself was on a barren run in front of goal until he found the back of the net against Liverpool.
Instead of getting rid of Jackson, Chelsea would do well to sign a proven goal scorer who is prolific in front of goal so that Jackson can be his understudy and learn from him.
At just 23 years of age, Jackson has a big future ahead of him and could repay the faith if Chelsea decide to give him the time to develop and hone his skills.
