Former Chargers' quarterback finds new home after six seasons with team

After spending six seasons with the Los Angeles Chargers, quarterback Easton Stick has agreed to a deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

Selected in the fifth round of the 2019 draft out of North Dakota State, Stick has held a backup job in Los Angeles, appearing in six games and making four career starts. He completed 64 percent of his throws for 1,133 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. The Chargers lost each of the games that he started.

The team held onto him almost stubbornly last season as Justin Herbert dealt with an ankle injury during the preseason. Stick didn't look good during training camp and preseason games and by most accounts, he was outplayed by spring league journeyman Luis Perez.

However, Jim Harbaugh opted to keep Stick for his experience even after the team traded for Taylor Heinicke following the preseason. Once the Chargers signed Trey Lance this offseason, taking a shot on the former No. 3 overall pick, it seemed to signal the end of Stick's time with the Chargers.

Stick will join an interesting quarterback situation in Atlanta, where last year's first-round pick, Michael Penix Jr., is the team's starter. But $100 million free agent Kirk Cousins is there as well, those rumors persist that the team could send him to a team hungry for a starting option.

If Cousins were to be moved, Stick would compete for the team's primary backup job to Penix. The only other QB on the Falcons' roster is Emory Jones.
