Former Astros star Alex Bregman predicted to make logical Red Sox decision after Pete Alonso signing

The Boston Red Sox entered the offseason with several different paths to address the corner infield, but as the market has unfolded, keeping Alex Bregman seems to be a need now. The Red Sox landed Wilson Contreras, which was great, but who will play third?

With both Pete Alonso and Munetaka Murakami now off the board, the list of impact corner infield options is done.

For the former Houston Astros slugger, Kerry Miller of Bleacher Report believes the fit with Boston is too obvious and still seems “like the likeliest outcome here.”

“Re-signing with Boston still seems like the likeliest outcome here. In fact, whatever the percent chance of a reunion was at the beginning of the offseason, it's probably even higher now with both Murakami and Pete Alonso no longer available as corner infield options. The Red Sox did acquire 1B Willson Contreras over the weekend, but that just means they now have a more concrete understanding of how much they can spend to address their one outstanding problem,” he wrote.

Bregman remains an ideal fit in Boston, both on and off the field. We all saw what he did with the youngsters. He provides stability at third base, leadership in the clubhouse, and a proven bat capable of carrying the lineup.

It almost feels like it makes too much sense not to happen.
