Former Angels, Braves 5.60 ERA reliever released by Athletics

The Athletics have been out of the postseason race for quite some time. 

As the NL West club prepares for its move to Las Vegas in 2028, they still have one more season at Sutter Health Park in West Sacramento. 

In two years, the A's are hoping to field a competitive roster, one that could help lead them back to the postseason. 

To do that, the front office will need to make notable additions to the pitching staff. 

The A's made a notable subtraction to their pitching staff on Tuesday, as left-hander Jose Suarez was released. 

Suarez, 28, made 36 appearances with the A's and posted a 5.65 ERA with 37 strikeouts and 48 hits allowed in 43 innings. 

The A's were Suarez's third team of the season, as he previously spent time with the Atlanta Braves and one game with the Seattle Mariners.

"It has been a few seasons since Suarez was a serviceable back-end starter with the Angels," Anthony Franco of MLB Trade Rumors wrote. "He has mostly pitched in long relief over the last few years, carrying a 5.35 ERA in 133 MLB frames since the start of 2024. Suarez has pitched for four clubs in that time." 

Franco adds that Suarez may be limited to minor league deals and overseas opportunities next season. 

It would be a surprise if he lands a Major League contract.
