In a close game between two contenders, the fine margins made all the difference.
The Las Vegas Aces rallied to stun the Indiana Fever on Thursday night, as Chelsea Gray first sank a 3-pointer to force overtime and another to win it in the extra session.
The Fever's 86-84 loss will sting particularly hard for Caitlin Clark. The superstar guard missed two free throws at the end of regulation that would have iced the game for Indiana, and she made another mistake in overtime that led directly to Gray's game-winner.

With the Fever nursing an 84-83 lead in the dying seconds of overtime, Clark asked to be isolated against A'ja Wilson and attempted to take the three-time Defensive Player of the Year off the dribble in another bid to ice the win.
As Clark realized she wasn't going to get past Wilson, she attempted an ill-advised hook pass into the pain. Wilson swiftly swatted it and hit Gray in transition.
And after Gray exchanged passes with Jackie Young, the "Point Gawd" drilled the winner as time expired.

The past few weeks of basketball have been arguably the best of Clark's three-year career. She is still the only player in the WNBA to rank in the top five in both points per game and assists per game. The turnovers being what they are, the Fever put the ball in her hands because she is capable of the spectacular.
But Clark also is capable of stubbornness, and those turnovers and missed shots add up against elite opposition. Finding the balance will be crucial if the Fever -- now sixth in the standings at 19-12 -- wants to compete for the championship against teams like the Aces.
