The Philadelphia Phillies, after a rough start to the year and the direction of Rob Thomson, have rebounded and are back above .500. Now, they have a better chance than ever to act as buyers.
If they do buy, their need couldn't be any clearer: the Phillies need a better right-handed hitter than the ones they have on the roster at the moment. If they could add a power-hitting right-handed outfielder, it would be an ideal move.
So, what about San Diego Padres star Fernando Tatis Jr.? He's struggling this season, as he doesn't have a single home run this year. However, according to Baseball Savant and Statcast, Tatis would be a much better hitter with the Phillies.
Phillies should trade for Fernando Tatis Jr. with HR stat revelation
Tatis, as @CodifyBaseball shared on Twitter/x, would have five home runs this season had he been playing at Citizens Bank Park in Philadelphia.

— Codify (@CodifyBaseball) May 18, 2026He has zero home runs this season, but if he were playing for the Phillies and played at CBP, he'd have five homers this season.
Baseball Savant notes that Tatis would have three homers with the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles, but no other club is at four expected homers, let alone five like the Phillies.
While Tatis might be making $340 million, and his offensive production this year isn't close to worth such a lofty price tag, if he were playing in Philadelphia, then he'd be a much better hitter.

Since he has power to the opposite field, the Phillies hitter-friendly right-field fence would be a good match with Tatis.
This statistic is a sign that the Phillies should look to trade for Tatis Jr. this season. While it's incredibly unlikely, with the Padres a World Series contender as well, it would make for a very fun pickup who could slot in as the cleanup hitter behind Bryce Harper.
A top-four of Trea Turner, Kyle Schwarber, Harper, and Tatis Jr. might be the best in baseball. Of course, a trade is not likely at all. But if Dave Dombrowski could pull off a deal, it's something that might work out better for the Phillies than any other team.
