An Australian man aboard a Royal Caribbean cruise was kicked off the ship, but his family opted to continue their vacation without him after he was booted for an alleged assault against another passenger.
The 44-year-old brawler, whose name was not shared, was traveling with his family on the cruise line’s “Anthem of the Seas” when he allegedly beat up another man just four days into the voyage, the Otago Daily Times reported.
The New Zealand police were alerted and boarded the ship once it docked in Dunedin, New Zealand and gave the man a warning before escorting him off, according to a statement obtained by PEOPLE.
The aggressor was left to find his way back to Australia all on his own, the Otago Daily Times reported.
The other man whom the unruly Aussie allegedly attacked was treated for a cut on his nose, the outlet reported.
Meanwhile, the ousted man’s family decided to continue the rest of the 10-day voyage without him, the outlet reported.
After their jaunt in Dunedin, the cruise sailed on to three other towns in New Zealand and is expected to dock back in Australia on Nov. 20, according to CruiseMapper.
Royal Caribbean’s passenger policies are stringent and assert that any “inappropriate or abusive behavior,” including “uninvited physical contact,” warrants removal from the ship, depending on the circumstance, according to its website.
The same rules apply for “unsafe behavior” like scaling the ship’s railings, according to the website.
This isn’t Royal Caribbean’s first rodeo with unruly passengers.
In September, one of its ships had to turn back to its dock after a swarm of passengers started a vicious fight by the kiddie pool, with some of the fighters even needing to be hospitalized.
In December 2024, a passenger died while in detainment on the ship after attacking the crew in a drunken stupor. His family said he was injected with a sedative shortly before he died.
