In late May, the Philadelphia 76ers ended their search for the successor to Daryl Morey, who was let go by the organization at the conclusion of their playoff run, which came in the form of a four-game sweep at the hands of the New York Knicks.
While their search would last for quite some time, when all was said and done, the Sixers opted to hire Mike Gansey to fill in Morey’s shoes. Prior to his move to the City of Brotherly Love, Gansey served as the general manager of the Cleveland Cavaliers, working under Koby Altman.
While some might not be privy to Gansey’s work and expertise, that is not the case for former Villanova University head coach Jay Wright, who offered a high amount of praise for the Sixers’ recent hiring on Sunday afternoon.
What did Wright have to say about Gansey?
For all @sixers fans . We just got a great competitor - teammate and basketball mind in Mike Gansey . He's humble, intelligent and knows the game . High character and good people . Let's welcome him and jump on board ! https://t.co/BHHnmSUcIC
— Jay Wright (@CoachJayWright) June 7, 2026Wright took to X to offer his thoughts to the Philadelphia faithful with his statement, reading: “For all Sixers fans. We just got a great competitor - teammate and basketball mind in Mike Gansey. He’s humble, intelligent, and knows the game. High character and good people, let’s welcome him and jump on board.”
Given the impact that Wright has had on the area’s collegiate scene, winning the National Championship with the Wildcats on two separate occasions, he might know more than others what fans in the region expect from such an appointment.
Gansey wasn’t the only front office figure to feature in the headlines recently, with the Sixers shuffling things around on Sunday afternoon, with Jameer Nelson and Prosper Karangwa seeing some changes, one in a promotion and the other in a contract extension, according to a recent report.
