Mitch Marner had a penalty shot for the Vegas Golden Knights, but he thought a different goalie was in net.
Marner had somehow not realized that the Carolina Hurricanes pulled Frederik Andersen.
That was true even though backup Brandon Bussi plays with the opposite glove hand that Andersen does.
And, well, it's leading to a lot of social media posts like this one:

It's something easy for Vegas fans to laugh about now. They went up 4-0, blew the entire lead, but then won in double overtime.
Marner, for his part, scored the fastest hat trick in Stanley Cup Final history, needing just 6 minutes and 10 seconds to do it (after getting an assist less than 30 seconds before starting his own goal-scoring surge).
It is very fair to ask, though: How didn't he notice?
He took a penalty shot thinking the goalie's glove was literally on the other hand from where it really was.
Marner is generally regarded as an intelligent hockey player, one who makes plays all over the ice. His hockey sense is definitely strong.
It escaped him in this moment, though, and it's just a quirky storyline amid an incredible night, and an incredible playoffs, for Marner.
