Turns out, Mitch Marner is Mitch Marner no matter what uniform he wears.
In his first season away from the Toronto Maple Leafs, Marner is looking like himself for the Vegas Golden Knights.
Much of his action happens out of the regular purview of Maple Leafs fans, now that Marner is in a different conference, a different country and most of the way across the continent.
But if anyone is wondering, Marner is doing just fine.
The Golden Knights negotiated a sign-and-trade with the Maple Leafs to get Marner on an eight-year contract worth $12 million per year. Marner had made it clear he wanted to move on from Toronto, and the sign-and-trade was a way for Vegas to get an extra year on the deal while Toronto got Nicolas Roy in return.
The 28-year old Marner is currently just above a point per game pace.
Through nine games, he has two goals and eight assists (10 points).
He's a plus-8. He also has five blocked shots and six hits.
Most notably, the Golden Knights are atop the Western Conference Pacific Division right now with 13 points in nine games (5-1-3) and a plus-6 goal differential.
In the Eastern Conference Atlantic Division, the Maple Leafs are sixth with nine points (4-4-1) and a negative-2 goal differential.
There's still lots of time to see how this all plays out, but right now, it's looking like the Marner and Vegas partnership will work out just fine, while the Leafs definitely miss him.
