Ex-Astros World Series champion with 11.74 ERA DFA'd by Mets

The New York Mets made a notable bullpen move on Friday afternoon. 

Today, the NL East club announced that right-hander Jack Weisenburger was recalled from Triple-A Syracuse. 

Weisenburger replaces fellow righty Chris Devenski, who was designated for assignment by the Mets. 

Devenski, 35, is an 11-year veteran reliever who has pitched for seven clubs. He made just six appearances with the Mets, allowing eight earned runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings. 

"Devenski is a 35-year-old impending free agent, so he gives the club no long-term value," Darragh McDonald of MLB Trade Rumors wrote. "With their remaining contests, the Mets can give more big league exposure to younger and controllable pitchers like Weisenburger."

The Mets are headed towards their second consecutive season without a postseason appearance. 

In all likelihood, Devenski would not have re-signed during the offseason. However, he threw 16.2 innings with the Mets in 2025 and posted a 2.16 ERA with 14 strikeouts. 

The best years of Devenski's career were his first two with the Houston Astros, earning an All-Star selection in 2017 for the eventual World Series champions.
