Bills reportedly have 'big plans' for 6-foot-7, 331-pound nose tackle

This upcoming season for the Buffalo Bills is a big one. Josh Allen and the offense need to thrive again, but arguably just as important is the defense playing at a higher level.

While Allen has had his share of lowlights and is part of why this team hasn't gotten over the hump, the defense has been a big problem for the Bills as well. An improved defense could be a major boon for the Bills this season.

That's part of why ESPN's Jeremy Fowler revealed that the Bills have "big plans" for 6-foot-7, 331-pound nose tackle Deone Walker for his season in the NFL. Walker could emerge as a key youngster along the DL, which is just what the Bills need.

"The Bills have big plans for second-year nose tackle Deone Walker, who could become a young leader for a defensive front that needs it," Fowler writes.

Walker is a massive defensive tackle who is just 22 years old and heading into his second NFL season since being drafted in the fourth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

He'll be operating up front with T.J. Sanders and Ed Oliver to begin the season, with Greg Rousseau, Michael Hoecht, Bradly Chubb and TJ Parker coming off the edge.

Walker played in 17 games last season, starting 16 of them. He finished the season with four passes defended, 1.0 sack, 39 total tackles, eight tackles for loss and four quarterback hits.

It wasn't a fantastic rookie season, but it was a solid start for the young lineman. Now, heading into Year 2 with the Bills and in the NFL, Walker could be in for a major step forward.

While he's not the kind of player who will record double-digit sacks, if Walker can provide a bit more pass rush juice and play even better run defense, the Bills defense could win the battle in the trenches.

That would be the starting point towards this defense turning things around in 2026. While there will be questions about how good this defense will really be, Walker's emergence as a good defensive lineman would be a huge step in the right direction.

With the Bills planning for Walker to emerge as such a player, he's someone fans should be keeping an eye on early this season. If Walker starts to play well, this Bills' defense might finally make a leap from middle of the pack to elite.
