One of the biggest questions surrounding the Golden State Warriors is whether Stephen Curry is re-signing with the team or if he'll head into free agency after the 2026-27 season. He's obviously the face of this franchise, along with Draymond Green, so it would be a huge blow to see him go.
But, this is the NBA, and just look at what happened with LeBron James leaving the Lakers after eight seasons. So, anything can happen in this league.
Now, one veteran Warriors beat writer is asserting that he knows exactly what Curry will do when it's time to sign on the dotted line. He says Curry is staying in Golden State.
Warriors beat writer believes Stephen Curry will re-sign
Longtime NBA journalist and The Athletic columnist Marcus Thompson II spoke with HoopsHype about his new book, "Game Changers: The GOATs Who Revolutionized Basketball," and during the talk, he discussed Curry's future.
He was point-blank asked, "Do you expect him to re-sign with the Warriors?"
Thompson replied, "Steph is re-signing. Steph isn't going anywhere. He never was. It's really important to him. He said this for years."
He added that Curry "wants to play for the same team his whole career. And I think it would take something dramatic to get him off that. And at 38, it's tough. Like, where's he going? I mean, that's a big one. Where does Steph Curry feel comfortable going and feel like it's his?"
Thompson added that Curry is a "very honor-driven player and I do think he takes honor in, hey, he'd rather go down not winning with his guys than going somewhere else and winning."
So, Warriors fans can feel a little better knowing that at least one veteran journalist thinks this deal is as good as done.
