Everything Taylor Swift Has Said—and Sung—About Getting Married

When Is Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce's Wedding? Kylie Kelce Says…

Travis Kelce didn't mind that Taylor Swift was already married to the hustle when he asked her to be his wife.

Because, as she has explained, he gets it.

"We both as a living, as a job, as a passion, perform for three and a half hours in NFL stadiums. We both do three-and-a-half-hour shows to entertain people," Taylor said on BBC Radio 2's The Scott Mills Breakfast Show in October. "For him, it’s practice, for me, it’s rehearsal. For him, it’s a game, for me, it’s a show. We just call them different things.”

And, having met her match in Travis, the 36-year-old added that she was just "really stoked about the idea that I get to marry this person."

Marriage is a major milestone that she's been mulling for years, both as a person and as a songwriter, but mainly as a romantic conceit. She's actually not the kind of mastermind who had a one-size-fits-all big day already mapped out by the time Travis proposed in August 2025.

“You would think that I had been the type of person who would have obsessed over the idea of a wedding my whole life," Taylor said on the U.K.'s Heart Radio, "but I actually never thought about what I would ever do or what I would want until I met the person."

Of course, now that she's met the person, there are a lot of details to consider. And apparently, while wedding planning may be underway now that football season is over, she and Travis were starting from scratch.

"I don’t want it to just be like, 'So, I have a scrapbook. In it, I put all the fabric swatches of the wedding dress I’m going to wear. I also have a tuxedo I picked out of a catalog that you’ll wear,'" Taylor said in the December 2012 issue of Cosmopolitan, which mentions her summer romance with Conor Kennedy but went to press too early to mention she had started dating Harry Styles. Describing what it wouldn't be like for Mr. Right, she added, "I don’t want him to wonder if it even matters if he’s there."

Rather, the then-23-year-old explained, "I want to build a life with someone that’s based on their dreams as well as my dreams."

Going strictly by her songs, however, listeners could have easily concluded that making it to the altar was the singer's holy grail.

Right out of the gate, "Mary's Song" from Taylor's 2006 self-titled debut album features a reminiscence of when "you looked at me / got down on one knee / Take me back to the time when we walked down the aisle...You said I do and I did too."

The goal is even more simply laid out in "Love Story," off of 2008's Fearless, in which Taylor's Juliet gets a happy ending by way of Romeo's proposal and the promise of a white dress.

But just as she sang in "Fifteen," from the same album—"Back then I swore I was gonna marry him someday / But I realized some bigger dreams of mine"—her thoughts on tying the knot changed over the years.

The prospect is also in the rearview mirror in "We Were Happy," a track from the vault included in 2021's Fearless (Taylor's Version), the artist singing, "No one could touch the way we laughed in the dark /Talkin' 'bout your daddy's farm / And you were gonna marry me / And we were happy."

In the meantime, 2010's Speak Now invokes the famous entreaty made at weddings, just in case there's someone raring to blurt out that they think the bride and groom are making a big mistake.

Which is the story that unfolds in the title track, while on "Foolish One" Taylor laments, "I'll get your longing glances, but she'll get your ring."

As one does, Taylor evolved as she had more boyfriends who were serious enough to merit mention in her music but turned out not to be "The 1."

"I think the way I used to approach relationships was very idealistic,” she told Rolling Stone in 2014. “I used to go into them thinking, ‘Maybe this is the one—we’ll get married and have a family, this could be forever.’ Whereas now I go in thinking, ‘How long do we have on the clock—before something comes along and puts a wrench in it, or your publicist calls and says this isn’t a good idea?'”

And Taylor admitted that dealing with relationship-status rumors could be hard. "You’ll be riding in the car with someone and all of a sudden it comes on the radio that he bought you a diamond ring and he’s going to propose," she said. "And you look at him and go, ‘…that’s not true, right?’ And he says, ‘No that’s not true!’ Can you blame me for wanting less of that?”

But a couple years later she met Joe Alwyn and hunkered down with the English actor until 2023. Ever the romantic, on 2019's Lover she named a whole song after the "Paper Rings" she would have gladly exchanged with her accidental beloved. And in "It's Nice to Have a Friend," her childhood pal who walks her home from school through the "sidewalk chalk covered in snow" grows into the other half of "Church bells ring, carry me home / Rice on the ground looks like snow."

If anything, she continued to idealize the institution of marriage but realized—as indicated in "Lavender Haze" from 2022's Midnights—there were a lot of ways to love between being a "one-night" or a wife.

Following her breakup with Alwyn, she released the 2023 Midnights bonus song "You're Losing Me" lamenting, "And I wouldn't marry me either / A pathological people pleaser / Who only wanted you to see her."

Those sentiments echoed "Champagne Problems" off of 2020's Evermore, in which Taylor describes another proposal that never was: "Your mom's ring in your pocket / My picture in your wallet / Your heart was glass, I dropped it." The exes' imagined friends say, "'She would've made such a lovely bride / What a shame she's f--ked in the head.'"

When The Tortured Poets Department dropped in April 2024, Taylor had been dating Travis for almost a year, but had written a batch of songs about far more complicated-sounding entanglements.

She pays homage to a fellow creative, rhapsodizing on the title track, "At dinner, you take my ring off my middle finger/ And put it on the one people put wedding rings on / And that’s the closest I’ve come to my heart exploding.”

She toyed with the idea of Mr. Wrong again in "But Daddy I Love Him," rumored to be inspired by her brief encounter with Matty Healy, singing, "No, you can’t come to the wedding / I know he’s crazy but he’s the one I want.”

Then, on "loml," she's looking toward the altar and beyond, until she's not: "You s--t-talked me under the table / Talkin' rings and talkin' cradles / I wish I could un-recall / How we almost had it all."

But on "So High School," a happier Taylor wonders of the guy who makes her weak in the knees (and who happens to "know how to ball"), "Are you gonna marry, kiss, or kill me? / It’s just a game, but really / I’m betting on all three for us two.”

The odds remain ever in their favor. And now that we've established where Taylor stands on marriage—she's definitely pro—here is everything to know so far about her upcoming wedding:

When is Taylor Swift going to marry Travis Kelce?

It's impossible to picture Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce getting married on a day that isn't laden with meaning for both—or at least for the bride.

"I love numerology. I love math stuff, I love dates," the renowned triskaidekaphile gushed on the Aug. 13 episode of New Heights, her unprecedented two-hour appearance on her fiancé's podcast dropping 13 days before they announced their engagement (but, according to Travis' dad, three days after they informed close friends and family of their new relationship status). "That stuff I find really fun."

Whether Travis remains in the NFL after the 2025 season—the final year under his current contract—will also factor into choosing a wedding date. If he doesn’t retire, then theirs will be off-season nuptials, anytime between the Super Bowl in February and when training camp starts in July.

If Travis does hang up his helmet after his 13th season (whoa, OK, that's just weird), then he's free to tie the knot during Taylor's beloved month of October. Or any other time, though the scheduling picture will become clearer once fans know when—or if—Taylor announces a tour for The Life of a Showgirl, which dropped Oct. 3.

The Bachelorette Party

While Taylor is known for having a celebrity-heavy squad, she admitted in October 2025 that she had yet to consider any bachelorette party plans.

"You would think that I had been that type of person who would have obsessed over the idea of a wedding my whole life," she said on the U.K.'s Heart Breakfast, "but I actually never thought about what I would ever do or what I would want—until I met the person."

"So, I haven't actually even thought about doing a hen do," she noted, invoking the British slang. "This is the first time I have thought about that."

Plus, she added of her gal pals, "They're so fun but they're so busy."

The Dress

When Taylor picks out a white dress, it's going to be one to remember.

Minus the price tags on her designer ensembles and deceptively simple-looking jewelry, the singer's style is relatable-chic, so we're picturing classic-with-a-twist from the likes of Oscar de la Renta, Elie Saab, Louis Vuitton, Zuhair Murad or J. Mendel, all longtime favorite labels.

Then, after she takes her vows in an elegant gown, the 5-foot-10 bride will surely change into a party dress more conducive to dancing all night.

And we eagerly await to see her nods to something old, something new, something borrowed and something blue.

But no less a wedding dress authority than Vera Wang predicted multiple looks and that Taylor "will be in lace of some sort.”

The Groom's Attire

Travis does fashion, too, so he is going to have fun with his wedding suit, whatever form it may take.

The fact that he wore shorts to propose (it was a sticky August in Kansas, people) prompted some online dares for him to also wear an elevated pair of short pants down the aisle. But that would be quite the subversive move and he likely doesn’t want to steal attention from the girl standing in a nice dress next to him.

Although, if showing off his knees was important to him…

Assuring that she did not have a tuxedo picked out for her future husband already, Taylor told Cosmopolitan in 2012, "I don't want him to wonder if it even matters if he's there."

The Guests

Family is everything to Taylor and Travis, so the VIPs automatically include their respective parents and brothers. Presumable best man Jason Kelce also shares at least two flower girl-age daughters, Wyatt and Elliotte, with wife Kylie Kelce—though depending on when the big day is, little sister Bennett could grow into the role as well. (Alas, baby Finnley will probably have to sleep this one out.)

We'll see which of Travis' Kansas City Chiefs teammates make the cut, but he was a groomsman at QB Patrick Mahomes' 2022 wedding to Brittany Mahomes, so at the very least one boy from the football team should be there, in addition to coach Andy Reid. He also has a loyal coterie of pals he's been cultivating since his Cleveland Heights days, so that golf-and-beer-centric bachelor party is gonna be lit.

As for the bride, childhood bestie Abigail Anderson has remained a mainstay in Taylor's life. And, while her famed squad has evolved over the years, Selena Gomez is still in the inner sourdough-gifting circle, as are Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds, despite rumors they've fallen out amid the actress' legal battle.

Not to mention, speaking of potential flower girls, Taylor is godmother to Blake and Ryan's daughters.

It also isn't hard to picture someone close to the couple getting ordained and officiating the ceremony, though we aren't laying money on Flavor Flav.

The Music

Addressing the band vs. DJ question, Travis said on the Sept. 17 episode of New Heights, "I think we're live music kind of people, you know?"

Ugh, we knew it, we're so on the same page.

And whether or not she takes the night off from performing, the bride has quite a few friends who know their way around a microphone. (We're especially looking at you, Haim.)

But Taylor joked it "would be hard to keep" Ed Sheeran from performing at her wedding.

"It's like, 'Ed, if there's a stage, you know that you'll be on it,'" she said during her Hits Radio interview in October 2025. "He knows what people want and he wants to give people what they want."

The Rings

Taylor may love Travis so much she'd marry him with paper rings, but that won't be the case.

Once again, if he keeps playing, he may have one of those sporty flexible wedding bands in rotation, but otherwise the scene has been set with the Old Mine Brilliant Cut diamond—by Kindred Lubeck of Artifex Fine Jewelry—that Travis picked out for his fiancée.

The engagement ring features an elongated center diamond flanked on each side by smaller diamonds, all set in custom-engraved yellow gold—and a perfect match for the $27,300 Cartier watch Taylor was wearing when he proposed.

Head Count

Just how massive will this white veil occasion be?

Taylor indicated on The Graham Norton Show in October that she didn't want the stress of having to cut names from the guest list, explaining that whittling it down meant having to "evaluate or assess your relationship" with people.

And, she added, "I'm not gonna do that."

Avowed Swiftie Nikki Glaser predicted a "big" wedding, telling E! News at the 2025 MTV Video Music Awards, "It has to be. It's all been leading to this."

At the same time, the comedian reasoned, since Taylor "gets to be a bride every day," attention-wise, the wedding will likely be as private as humanly possible.

“She just wants to celebrate with all her family and friends, and she's got a lot of them," Nikki noted. "I look forward to the helicopter photos that will ruin her day somehow by hovering above."

Once the newlyweds have driven off into the sunset, however, there's no universe in which Taylor doesn’t start sharing scenes from her big day with her devoted fans.
