A former WWE champion has been absent from the ring for the past few months. Tony Khan has provided an update on his return.

Andrade started the year as part of the WWE roster. He even formed a successful tag team with Rey Fenix. However, the former United States Champion was suddenly released from his contract. Shortly after leaving the Stamford-based promotion, he showed up in AEW and attacked Kenny Omega. It looked like AEW was planning something big for him. However, he soon disappeared from TV again. It was then reported that by showing up in the Jacksonville-based promotion, Andrade had violated his non-compete agreement. Therefore, he was asked to serve out his non-compete clause.

It looks like his non-compete agreement has come to an end since he was announced for NJPW Wrestle Kingdom 20. During the Worlds End media call, Tony Khan was asked if Andrade could be returning to AEW anytime soon. The AEW boss replied that there is interest in both parties for him to return. He also added that they're all keeping an eye on Andrade's next move. Tony also noted that "everyone should stay tuned" to what's next in AEW. So for now, his AEW return date isn't confirmed.

Tony Khan recently fired a shot at WWE

Last week, AEW hosted two back-to-back episodes of its weekly shows, Dynamite and Collision. During the changeover, Tony Khan came out to greet the fans who started chanting "MSG", indicating that they wanted the company to host a show in the iconic Madison Square Garden.

Tony then revealed that the very first episode of the flagship show was set to be held in the Garden. However, "they" (WWE) didn't want them there.

"They didn't want me there, did you know that? The first episode of Dynamite was originally going to be there and they called me and offered me the date. They (MSG) said 'would you like to do the first episode of Dynamite here?'..and I said 'yeah I really would, it would be great.' Then they called me a couple months ago and said, 'we don't want you here anymore,'" said Tony Khan [0:12 - 0:59]

It remains to be seen when Andrade will return to AEW.
