ESPN’s Eagles update leaves Philly radio host in a dark place: ‘Makes my blood boil’

Philadelphia sports radio is losing its collective mind over the Eagles’ offensive coordinator gig.

Sportsradio 94WIP host Hunter Brody didn’t take well to Adam Schefter’s ESPN report that Philadelphia head coach Nick Sirianni is not in a rush to hire a new offensive coordinator because he has experience calling plays.

“I am angry that it’s taking this long,” an animated Brody said on his overnight show on Wednesday. “This offensive coordinator hire was supposed to be significant. It was supposed to be going from Kevin Patullo — Kevin ‘I Don’t Know What I’m Doing’ Patullo — to a Brian Daboll, to a Mike McDaniel. That’s the way this was supposed to go.”

The Eagles removed Kevin Patullo as offensive coordinator following a massive drop-off this season and a Wild Card round loss to the 49ers, though he may remain on the staff.

The Eagles won the NFC East division this past year, but the fans were irate with the handling of the offense, constantly booing the unit that rated No. 17 in offensive DVOA.

Philadelphia had the 12th-worst yards per play average in the NFL this season.

A high-powered offense that features Saquon Barkley, A.J. Brown, DeVonta Smith and Jalen Hurts should be a massive draw, especially for a team that won the Super Bowl less than 12 months ago.

“I think they’re lost,” Brody continued. “And that’s why it’s taking forever. It’s not this smart, strategic move that [Eagles GM] Howie Roseman is bringing everybody in under the sun to talk to and pick their brains… they’re struggling to find people who want to be a coach under Nick Sirianni and they’re struggling to find people who are OK with being told what to do instead of actually being able to run what they believe works.”

The Eagles have been linked to former Miami OC Frank Smith, Colts OC Jim Bob Cooter, ex-Chiefs OC Matt Nagy and Texans QB coach Jerrod Johnson according to reports. Ex-Giants coach Daboll, ex-Dolphins coach McDaniel and several others have opted for other jobs in the wide-open market.

“If they can’t find the right guy, Nick Sirianni can call plays? Oh my god, what are we doing?” Brody said. “You want to waste the season? You want to waste another season — that’s a joke. The fact that that’s even mentioned makes my blood boil. That’s a joke. If that’s the case, fire Nick and restart, ’cause I’m telling you, it will be horrific if that man has full say in what’s being called in-game and all the designed stuff — it’ll be horrible.”
