The Minnesota Vikings quarterback position has been one of the most talked-about positions in football over the past couple of weeks.
That is because the Vikings reportedly aren't sold on J.J. McCarthy being "the" guy, especially after last year's inconsistent performances.
Having been linked with several veteran quarterbacks, now it is being reported that the Vikings are leading the race to sign Kyler Murray, who was released by the Arizona Cardinals.
And for ESPN's Louis Reddick, he thinks if the Vikings sign Murray, it's over for McCarthy in Minnesota.
"It's over, it's over for J.J.," Reddick said. "They sign him, it's over. You bring Kyler Murray in there, it's a new system for him, he has to get reps. Given what happened to them before with Sam [Darnold], if he winds up winning the job and plays well, they just aren't going to let him go then.
"For J.J. McCarthy, I know you [Vikings] moved up to 10 to pick him, it's going to be time to move on from him."

McCarthy's future already in doubt
Reddick is right.
The Vikings aren't going to sign Murray to be the backup. He needs reps, and you could make the case that if it is a QB battle, Kyler wins it.
If he does, then what for McCarthy?
Given his age, the Vikings aren't likely to be too keen to keep him as a backup, and moving on, while early in his contract, could be an option.
The Vikings continue to be burned for their decision to move on from Sam Darnold in favor of J.J., and now it looks like McCarthy's future in Minnesota is on wafer-thin ice.
