Manchester City striker Erling Haaland reacted with a 2-word message after Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah shared a picture of himself and national teammate Omar Marmouh on social media.

The Egyptian national team began their AFCON 2025 campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Zimbabwe, thanks to goals from Salah and Marmoush. Egypt asserted dominance from the outset at the Grande Stade d’Agadir, but it was Zimbabwe that took a shocking 20th-minute lead through Prince Dube, who brilliantly controlled Emmanuel Jalai’s ball in the box and put it beyond Ahmed El Shenawy.

The Pharaohs tirelessly made efforts to find a way back into the contest but were unable to do so before the first-half interval. The pattern remained unchanged until after the hour mark when Marmoush broke through on goal and fired his effort into the roof of the net to restore parity for Egypt.

Egypt kept cranking up the pressure, hunting and keeping Zimbabwe’s goalkeeper busy between the sticks. The efforts finally paid off in added time when Salah beat 40-year-old Washington Arubi from 10 yards, denying Zimbabwe an historic point.

After the match, Salah shared a picture of himself and Manchester City man Marmoush on his official Instagram handle. Haaland, obviously excited for his teammate Marmoush, took to the comments and wrote:

“Salam brusjans👍🏻.”

Marmoush’s stunning goal and display earned him the TotalEnergies Man of the Match award. Salah, meanwhile, wore an Egyptian-inspired F50 boots created by Adidas, with ‘Egyptian King’ written on the back for their AFCON opener. The Instagram post was Salah’s first post-match selfie since April.

Egypt are second in Group B and will face leaders South Africa in their next AFCON game on Friday, December 26.
