England take on Senegal in an international friendly match at Nottingham's City Ground this Tuesday.

England are coming into this game on the back of a lacklustre performance away against Andorra. Senegal's last game, meanwhile, saw them draw away to the Republic of Ireland in a friendly fixture.

So will Thomas Tuchel's Three Lions perform better on Tuesday, or will Senegal come away with a victory?

England vs Senegal Head-to-Head and Key Numbers

  • England have only faced Senegal on one occasion before, in the 2022 World Cup Round of 16. That game was one of the more impressive England performances of recent years, as goals from Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane and Bukayo Saka gave them a strong 3-0 victory over the African side.
  • England's win over Andorra on Saturday was their third straight win under new boss Thomas Tuchel. However, the fact that they only won 0-1 against the minnows was hugely disappointing, as was the dull nature of their performance.
  • Senegal are currently riding a lengthy unbeaten run of 13 matches, dating back to their penalty shoot-out loss to Cote D'Ivoire in the Africa Cup of Nations in January 2024. To find their last loss in normal time, you have to go back to a friendly with Algeria in September 2023.
  • Despite Senegal's high standing in the FIFA world rankings - they are the second-highest ranked African side behind Morocco - a surprisingly small number of their squad ply their trade in England's Premier League. Of the current squad, only Ismaila Sarr, Pape Matar Sarr and Idrissa Gueye play for EPL sides.
  • Harry Kane's winning goal against Andorra was his 72nd for England, putting him 19 goals ahead of second-place Wayne Rooney in the list of the country's all-time top scorers.

England vs Senegal Prediction

Last time England played Senegal, they brushed them aside comfortably. On paper, they ought to do the same this week.

After all, Senegal have a handful of key players missing and needed a late equaliser to draw with a relatively weak Ireland side last week.

However, the Three Lions looked so out-of-sorts against Andorra that it's hard to imagine them producing a vintage performance in Nottingham on Tuesday.

Quite what kind of side Thomas Tuchel will choose is anyone's guess, and although they may still edge this friendly fixture, anyone expecting something special will probably be sorely disappointed.

Prediction: England 1-0 Senegal
