Eagles superstar Jalen Carter shafted in 2025 Defensive POY odds announcement

4 hours ago 1

Jalen Carter was one of the most dominant defensive tackles in football during the 2024 season, and he’s only entering Year 3 of his rookie contract.

The Philadelphia Eagles superstar is on a trajectory to become the NFL’s best singular defensive player, but early odds for 2025 Defensive Player of the Year strike a different tone.

DraftKings recently updated its odds for DPOY, and at the top of the list are familiar names like Detroit’s Aidan Hutchinson (+650), Dallas’ Micah Parsons (+750), Cleveland’s Myles Garrett (+850) and Pittsburgh’s T.J. Watt (+950). Carter is surprisingly well down the list, tied for eighth overall at +2200 with Jared Verse of the Rams and Trey Hendrickson of the Bengals. That means a $100 bet on Carter to win DPOY could pay back $2,300 total if it hits.

EDGE rushers tend to impact the stat sheet at a higher rate than interior linemen, so it’s no surprise players like Hutchinson, Parsons, Garrett and Watt are ahead of him. Should players like Will Anderson, Maxx Crosby and Nick Bosa have better odds than Carter, though? That’s where Eagles fans should have a serious gripe.

Carter posted a ridiculous 75 total pressures in 2024 (including Philly’s playoff run),  and turned those into seven sacks, 16 QB hits, 52 hurries and 32 run stuffs, per PFF. When fully engaged and locked in, he’s an absolute game-wrecker.

Broncos cornerback Patrick Surtain is the NFL’s reigning DPOY, and he’s even further down the odds list at +4000. Philly’s Quinyon Mitchell (+5000) and Zack Baun (+7500) could be viewed as deep sleepers for the award, but aside from the position he plays, Carter offers some massive value as the best young defensive tackle in football.
