The Philadelphia Eagles' preparations for the upcoming NFL campaign are starting to come to an end, after the team held its open practices at Lincoln Financial Field on Tuesday night. This allowed the Philadelphia faithful to get a better look at what of the more familiar faces like Jalen Hurts and Saquon Barkley have been working on, as well as some of the newer players to the city.
Whether it was Makai Lemon, Dontayvion Wicks, or Cole Payton, Eagles fans have been getting to make their own analysis of the latest crop of talent to hit the team.
Another one of the fresh faces to be brought in was Eli Stowers, who was selected by Philadelphia with their second-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft. Stowers spent the last few years of his collegiate career with Vanderbilt, recording 769 yards and four touchdowns in his final season in the SEC, proving to be a reliable option for Clark Lea.
While he might have been impressive with the Commodores, according to some, he hasn't really stuck out in his first NFL training camp.

— Brandon Lee Gowton (@BrandonGowton) August 20, 2026As reported by the PhillyVoice's Jimmy Kempski, Stowers has appeared not to pick up on either side of his duties as a tight end, being a blocker or receiver, and when he has he hasn't shown what he was doing during his time in college.
"Unfortunately, throughout camp Stowers hasn't shown much to get excited about as a receiver or as a blocker," Kempski writes. "He has not exhibited the explosive traits that are in his body, he has sometimes looked tentative as a blocker, and he simply hasn't made catches further than, like, 10 yards down the field."
When looking at his stats during the Eagles' opening preseason matches, it's not tough to see why this is the consensus that Kempski has come to, with Stowers' 12 yards against the Baltimore Ravens being his only numbers thus far, as he failed to make a catch on two targets against the New England Patriots.
With the 23-year-old not excelling on the practice field, Kempski feels that he won't take to the field once the season rolls around in a few weeks' time.
"But for now, Stowers is unplayable, and likely to be a gameday inactive," states Kempski.
If Stowers does end up not being an option come the Eagles' season opener, Nick Sirianni would be left with Grant Calcaterra and Johnny Mundt to back up Dallas Goedert in his offensive schemes.
