Yankees sign All-Star reliever amid Fernando Cruz injury news

The New York Yankees have made several roster moves before tonight's game against the Houston Astros. 

Most importantly, right-handed reliever Fernando Cruz was placed on the 15-day IL. 

"Yankees RHP Fernando Cruz lands on the 15-day injured list with right elbow discomfort," MLB.com's Bryan Hoch wrote on X. 

Cruz allowed two earned runs, including a game-tying home run to Jeremy Pena, in last night's 9-7 loss against the Astros. He threw just 11 of his 20 pitches for strikes.

Prior to tonight’s game, the Yankees made the following roster moves:
• Placed RHP Fernando Cruz on the 15-day injured list with right elbow discomfort.
• Optioned RHP Bradley Hanner to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.
• Recalled RHP Elmer Rodríguez (#71) from Triple-A…

Pitching prospect Elmer Rodriguez will start tonight's game. Reliever Bradley Hanner was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. 

Additionally, reliever Kervin Castro was transferred to the 60-day IL.

Lastly, the Yankees have signed former All-Star and 2016 American League Rookie of the Year Michael Fulmer to a Major League contract. 

Fulmer, 33, is not the same caliber pitcher he once was. He began his career as an immediate frontline starter with the Detroit Tigers and finished 10th in AL Cy Young Award voting during his rookie year. 

He appeared in three games with the Los Angeles Angels before the AL West club designated him for assignment. Fulmer threw 3.2 scoreless innings with four strikeouts and two hits allowed.
